Using slides for teachers to interact with students - Nearpod
Welcome to Kailin's ICT journey.
Nice to meet you here!π
I share my opinions and thoughts in my ICT journey Blog!
Hope you guys enjoy it! π
Let's explore a valuable website for teachers to create an online platform for interacting with their students ~π
This website is named Nearpod.
It is a website for you to share your slides and interact with your students. Through this website, you can provide a platform which shows different games and exercises for students.
And teachers can see the results from students' practices or anonymously see the results.
Why is this technology relevant to language learning?
This website is a slides-based interactive lesson and interactive video, there are plenty of lessons for educators or students to look up with. Also, there are different subjects from the Nearpod library, such as ELA, math, science, social studies and life skills. In addition, this platform is live participation which teachers can control the pace of a lesson. And students can participate on their own devices in person.
Our ICT teacher Tilly demonstrates how to use Nearpod during several classes. For example, she first made a slide, and there was literature and activity. In the activity of Nearpod, there are several games that students should complete and cooperate with their partners. Second, in the activity, students should post pictures of the place or people they visited, such as a coffee shop, grocery store and school facility. Then, students must use the Nearpod to record what they did during the activity or interview. It creates opportunities for students to engage in class and speak English with real-world people. As Vygotsky (1978)said, interaction is a social and psychological connection that fosters learning as problem-solving in collaboration with capable peers. In the end, when students finish the activity, they come back to the class and share what they did with their classmates.
According to how Tilly showed us how to combine Nearpod in the classroom literature and activity. I can say there are more and more functions on the Nearpod that teachers can use it in our classroom activities. In addition, as above mention, Nearpod can combine games with a learning language activity, and students will increase their motivation during class because they have to cooperate with their peers.
Target Audience
This tool is for teachers who want to increase interaction with students during class. Also, it is for teachers who prepare teaching slides and want to fully control the slide pages. Because students couldn't change the slide pages in this tool unless teachers did.
What limitations can you see with the use of this technology?
I think Nearpod is a solid functional tool that can help teacher organize their classroom activities in various ways. However, I think the limits of this tool are that students couldn't keep a record of their learning history while using it. Only teacher can record their learning data, not students. So, what if students want to look back at what they did during the classroom activities and the contents of the literature? They don't have a way to find out.
This is the end of my blog. ✔
Thank you for reading here! π
I appreciated it a lot! πππ

Hi, Kailin. It's really nice that in this post, you shared the detailed experience we had in our class. The structure is very clear. But I think it would be better if you use bullet points or different size of fonts to show the key points.
ReplyDeleteNearpod is one of my favourite tools too! It's really so good for use in the classroom as it is flexible and easy to use while being compatible with different features. I really appreciate your point about its limitations, and to be honest, I wrote a blog about Nearpod too, but the inconvenience in the student perspective was something I hadn't thought of. Once again you've inspired me, thank you for sharing! I do have one small suggestion though, I think it would have been more visual clear if you could have added a few pictures as examples to illustrate when describing how to use it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you cite the liteature “As Vygotsky (1978)said..." to add professionalism to the blog. But I think you should also attach the reference in the end of the blog to know where the literature from, just a kind reminder.
