Let's play music and lead students to learn English in a fun way - Lyricstraining

Welcome to Kailin's ICT journey.

Nice to meet you here!πŸ˜€

I share my opinions and thoughts in my ICT journey Blog!

This blog talks about how to teach English via technology.

Hope you guys enjoy it! πŸ˜„

Before starting, I want to share a picture I took in Iceland!
This place is a famous waterfall.

It is amazing, isn't it? πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Let's explore a useful website for practicing singing songs ~πŸ˜‰

This website is named Lyricstraining

It is easy to access this website.

It aims for learners to enjoy learning languages with music.

You can use it for students to learn English or other languages by playing with the videos and the lyrics they like.

Why is this technology relevant to language learning?

It is easy to access this website. Students only need to play a song and test their listening comprehension by filling in the gaps in the song lyrics as soon as possible.

By doing the above exercises, students can enhance their listening capability. While listening to the music, students need to concentrate and recognize the words they heard. Also, since they listen to different accents and pronunciations, the sounds of singers give their brains more flexibility, and students could be more familiar with various uses of languages.

What approaches to language learning or research underpin the use of this technology?

Many studies show that music stimulates learning and inherently promotes memorization, just as we were children. Music could shape learners’ brains to learn other languages more quicker and smoother. SLA research has examined specific language skills that can be effectively developed using music and song—for example, explicit development of listening discrimination and comprehension (Engh, 2013).

How might you use it to foster language learning?

This website provides different game modes so learners can enjoy listening to songs and learning English. Also, if the teacher shows this website to students who love singing or listening to English songs, it would increase their motivation and autonomy. Based on this learning system, Lyricstraning combines interest with learning so that more students would want to engage in it.

Target Audience

This tool is for teachers who want to teach English songs in a fun way. And for students who interested in sining songs and listening music.

What limitations can you see with the use of this technology?

I think this tool is quite helpful for students who love English songs and want to practice them. However, those words that needed to be recognized and filled in were random. It will be challenging for students to achieve the tasks without dividing words from different English levels.

This is the end of my blog. ✔

Thank you for reading here! πŸ™

I appreciated it a lot! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Let's watch a video that talk about Lyricstraning~ πŸ“Ί

  1. Hi Kailin, it's a great pleasure to read your blog! The blog is really your style hhh and I enjoy it. In this blog, I know about how can music be used in English teaching, which is meaningful and helpful. I think, maybe in my future teaching practice, I will try to use this tool.

  2. Hi, Kailin. I really like the picture you have taken from Iceland. But in terms with other images in this blog, I think its necessary to specify the sources. In terms of target audience, students who lack self-control or live in the remote areas are not suitable for using this tool. Thanks for sharing the fantastic picture with us :)

  3. lyricstraining is one of my favourite teaching platforms too! I couldn't agree with you more about its limitations, the platform differentiates games based on the number of blanks to be filled in rather than the difficulty level of the words, to be honest I wrote a blog about lyricstraining too however I hadn't thought about this point. Your blog has been very enlightening and helpful to me! Maybe we can have a little discussion about this!
